Braselton Lesson of the Month—Self Discipline

Self Discipline.png

Legacy MMA is more than just a karate school or a place for you to go to for a kickboxing class. We support our parents as much as we can by coming alongside you to teach important life lessons. For Legacy MMA Braselton, that means that every month will have a theme. For the next month, Sensei George will focus on Self Discipline.

By now, your children have been in school of some kind for a couple of weeks. Some of you are in-person and others are doing digital learning. No matter how your child is going to school, we all are experiencing a test of self-discipline.

Self Discipline and Digital Learning

Digital learning is perhaps the biggest test of self-discipline we’re experiencing at the moment. Children at all grade levels are being asked to sit in front of a laptop or digital device and complete tasks they would have otherwise had in person with the help of a teacher. While older students in middle school and high school are able to do this easier, younger students, especially those in K-5 may have a harder time. They need to be active and moving. They have short attention spans and the school day is structured to meet the age-appropriate brain functions of these children. Preaching to the choir—we know.

We’re going to do our part by teaching self-discipline. We get hands-on with our digital learning camp. It’s easier for us to teach self-discipline in the moment when students are with us. For those taking advantage of digital learning in Braselton, Sensei George helps students refocus and enforces self-discipline right when students start to lose focus.

Self-Discipline and Karate

Children’s karate (what would be our normal after school karate program) is the physical expression of self-discipline. We teach Kenpo karate which is different than other forms of martial arts. The difference is that we teach self-defense, but in that, our students are made aware of their power and presence. We teach them to control their form. That takes practice. Many of our students practice outside of class during their free time because they want to get better. There is this unexplainable effect Kenpo karate has on students. It naturally draws them and while they are going through forms, the self-discipline switch gets turned on.

\Sensei George reinforces self-discipline. He won’t tolerate anything but the best out of his students because he sees value in each student. Self-discipline isn’t just for class. He finds every opportunity to teach it in between classes.

As we go through this season and Braselton parents are noticing areas where children need help with self-discipline, one of the best ways to do that is to communicate with Sensei George. Email him or talk to him in-person about your concerns and he’ll make sure to work with your child. Just like Kenpo karate transformed him, he knows it will transform your children.

Karate isn’t just something you make your child go-to for after school care. It’s an investment in a life path. When you speak with Sensei George, he’ll come ask you how he can transform your life. As parents, we’re looking to transform our children’s lives by teaching them discipline and life values that empower them at home, school, and the world. Classes at Legacy MMA Braselton are guaranteed to be different than other karate schools in the area. Sensei George has his own unique style. His classes are fun, modern, hip, exciting-- full of real-life lessons. He pushes his students to learn how to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations.

A Summer Camp Legacy

#ItsaLEGACYmmaSummer has been that ray of sunshine we all so desperately needed. For us, it speaks to our name. The word “legacy” means to leave something learned for others. Summer 2020 is leaving a legacy. We learned are resilient and fierce. A pandemic can’t keep us from having fun. We learned to be more careful and sanitize more often. Our campers were made more aware good hygiene and how critical it is to wash our hands. And let’s face it, this is a lesson that we can remind them of all year. We learned to be content with the present and that worrying about tomorrow doesn’t make tomorrow any easier.

So here we are. We’ve made it to the last week and half of Summer break. We’ve so loved getting to know your kiddos. We sincerely love them all and are so thankful you have given us the privilege of loving on them this summer. Here’s what we have planned for rest of the Summer.

You’ve got options for digital learning and after school!

We know that the strain of being forced to go the digital learning route can be for some of our parents. That’s why we’re opening all three of our facilities (North Gwinnett, Buford, and Braselton) for digital learning. For $149/week isn’t a bad deal.

  • Drop off as early as 6:30 am and pickup as late as 6:30 pm.

  • Kids participate in digital learning with their classes. Just bring digital devices, chargers, and headphones.

  • Karate included. Kids even get a free uniform.

  • Recess and playtime will allow kids to burn off energy and socialize with friends.

Lunch is not provided so please make sure to pack a lunch and snacks along with plenty of water.

After School Karate

For those who are doing digital learning at home, you have the option to bring your kiddo to one of our locations once class is over to participate in our after school karate program. For those going to school for in-person instruction, we’ll pick up your student and bring them back to our location. For $70/week, you get after school care plus karate. For parents doing the digital learning route, you get a break and your kids get to socialize and burn off energy while continuing their karate training.

We are also offering karate classes by themselves. For $129/month, you have the option of in-person or zoom.  You will come to class at the designated time each belt level. To register, call 78-541-5254.

While Summer ends, we start fresh with another school year. We know that students will thrive in school and on the mat.

Back to School 2020-2021 Options

Back to School 2020-2021 Options

It’s safe to say that this school year will be unlike any other we’ve ever experienced. While some of us hoped to send our students back to school even with the option for digital learning, school districts have made decisions and now we have to accept that leadership and do our best to navigate. As of now, we know that Gwinnett County Public Schools will start the school year with 100% virtual learning while Hall County, Bartow County, and Jefferson County schools will offer both in-person and digital/distance learning.

We understand the anxieties and frustration of the current climate and want to reassure all of our families that Legacy MMA is here to support whatever decisions you make.  We know that digital learning, while safe can limit physical activity that promotes focus and uses that energy we envy so much from our children. We know that being home isolated from other students during the school day impacts socialization. That is why we’ve decided to support families all over Gwinnett, Hall, Bartow, and Jefferson counties in Georgia with these options.

Digital Learning Camp

We are offering digital learning at all three of our locations (Sugar Hill, Buford, and Braselton).  Students will be assigned to small groups based on grade level and will be assisted in participating and completing course work. All students need to bring their digital devices (chargers too), headphones, lunch, snacks, and a bottle of water.

For $149/week per child ($139/week for each additional child), you get digital learning camp plus karate after school.  We’re structuring our days so it feels like a school day. Your students will get recess and breaks to allow them to be physically active and use up all their stored energy.

Space is limited so make sure to register.

After School Program

Legacy MMA is still offering our after school program but slightly differently. For those attending in-person instruction at our schools in Jefferson, Bartow, and Hall County schools, we will pick up students.

For those who are doing digital learning but would like your student to still participate in our after school karate curriculum, you are welcome to drop off your student at one of our locations after 2 pm.  This is a good idea if you want to make sure your students get socialization and physical activity for the day. And parents, let’s be real. You also need a break to work or do whatever else you need.

For $70/week per student ($60/week for each additional child), your student can play with friends and participate in class until 6:30 pm. Karate uniforms for new students will also be provided. It’s a pretty good deal. Register here.

Karate Classes

For families interested in karate only classes, we’ve got two options for you—in-person and Zoom Karate.  For $129/month, you come to class at the designated time for your student’s belt level and participate in class.

In-Person Karate
Karate students come to one of our locations.

Zoom Karate
I
f you feel more comfortable with digital karate, this is an option just for you. Once you register, you’ll be sent a link with the meeting code and password to participate at the designated time for your student’s belt level.

To register for either karate only or Zoom Karate, Call 678-541-5254 or email: Legacy MMA Club legacymmaclub@gmail.com.

2020-2021 Braselton After School Karate Program Update

2020-2021 Braselton After School Karate Program Update

We love the communities we serve. The families that come to Legacy MMA Club for summer camp and after school karate become family to us. When there is a need, we do our best to serve. Here’s what we know. COVID-19 is impacting all of us. We’ve changed our policies and cleaning procedures to meet guidelines to keep our staff and students safe. That being said, we’ve heard from our parents and we’re making changes to the Legacy MMA Braselton location.

Digital Learning Camp in Braselton, GA

Many of our parents are essential workers and need to physically report to work. At the same time, some parents don’t feel comfortable sending their children to in-person instruction. For that reason, we’re going to extend digital learning camp at our Braselton location. Tuition is $149/week per child.

Students must bring digital learning devices (chargers too). We also recommend headphones so students can participate in live lessons without disturbing other students. Your children will complete instruction activities.

Register for Braselton Digital Learning Camp.

Like summer camp, students need to bring their lunch and snacks along with a bottle of water. Please don’t send juice. Spills are extra messy.

Before School Care for Braselton area schools

Legacy MMA is extending our before care to meet the needs of our parents who need to be at work early. Students can be dropped off as early as 6:30 am. Students can bring breakfast if they need to. We will transport students to school.

If students are enrolled in our after school karate program, tuition for before school care is $35/ week per student. Before school care only is $50/week.
